“Labor Research from Planned Economy to Savage Capitalism” was the title of a workshop conference organized by the Research Documentation Centre / Voices of the 20th Century Archive and Research Group together with the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives in December 2020. The event was held online, the recordings are now available on the Blinken OSA YouTube channel.

The apropos of the conference was the acquisition of new research collections by the RDC, as well as the existing collections of the Voices of the 20th Century Archive. Hungarian sociologists in the 1970s and 1980s conducted extensive research concerning the world of labor. The result of this research work is not exclusively a feasible research source to draw social history conclusions of the era, at the conference also gave a platform for the analysis and discussion of topics such as the future of the digital labor force and the internet proletariat. The organizing institutions’ mutual goal with the conference was to call attention to the fact that archives bear shared responsibility to process and manage sociological documents, while sociologists must make sure to archive their research well.
