Scope and content

This series includes notes and copies of sources relating to István György Tóth's research on alphabetization, reading and book usage, as well as on the spreading and range of reading and writing, and the situation of minor schools, educators and pupils. The catalogs that survived in the inventories of estate relate to the larger question of book ownership and usage.

The sources come from a number of archives, including the one in Szentgotthárd, the Vas and Zala County Archives, the State Archives of Hungary, and the Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv in Vienna.
