Scope and content

The collection comprises altogether 10 linear metres (60 archival boxes) and contains documents related to Kiraly's academic and political career and activities between 1956 and 1996. The collection contains his wide range of correspondence with individuals and with institutions (Correspondence by Subject, Academic, Private); documents related to his academic career and activities in the US (Academic papers), to political activities within Hungarian émigré circles in the US and in France, documents that revelal his connections to the Hungarian opposition and dissident movements (Opposition, Emigration); manuscripts, conference papers and conference abstracts written by himself and by others (Manuscripts); documents and correspondence related to the activities and publishing projects of Atlantic Research and Publication Ltd. (ARP-files); press clipping and copies of publications from and on Béla Király in the Hungarian and foreign press, publications of other authors, and press clippings on the 1956 Hungarian Revolution (Press Clippings, Notes); and a small amount of personal documents which include documents of his activities as Member of the Hungarian Parliament, 1990-1994 (Personal files).
The language used is mostly English (especially the sub-series related to Kiraly's activities, correspondence and ARP, part of Opposition, Emigration files), and Hungarian (the major part of the press clippings, private correspondence, and files on Opposition, Emigration). Scattered documents (press clippings, correspondence) written in Russian, German, French and Spanish can also be found.
