Scope and content

The Weekly Information Letter was published between January 1, 1953 and July 17, 1959 and can be regarded as the forerunner to the Situation Reports. It was compiled by the national Evaluators of the News and Information Service, RFE, and issued once a week. The Letter contained reports and assessments about developments in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The reports were not issued separately, but rather as one package compiled by the National Evaluators of the News and Information Service, RFE.
