Scope and content

The purpose of the biographic directories was to provide reference for changes that took place in the leadership of the USSR including Soviet Republics and of the East European countries. The directories were records of persons who were primarily responsible for giving directions in the USSR and East European countries between 1952 and 1991 but also of prominent Soviet economists, sociologists and demographers.

All USSR relating entries contain the same types of information presented in the same sequence. The entries relating to East European leadership contain short CVs. The biographical data are drawn from official Soviet and East European sources.
