Originally, SR were published daily; later their publication reverted to a twice weekly schedule in 1962, a weekly schedule in 1970, and a biweekly schedule in 1979. Except for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which have been combined in a Baltic Area SR (first introduced in December 1984), they were written separately for each of the eight countries to which RFE RL broadcast and covered the latest development in almost all areas of life in these respective states.
The Situation Reports (SR) are mostly descriptive but partly analytical, with the latter element becoming more pronounced over the years. In their last format, SR consisted of 3 to 10 items, with each item being 1 to 6 pages long. Although RFE/RL did not broadcast to Albania, SR were published irregularly on this country during the 1960s. Beginning in late 1984, Yugoslav Situation Reports were also introduced.Accruals Not expected
